Loreto, the first settlement on the Baja California peninsula, is the historic first capital of the three Californias from 1697 to 1777. Today Loreto is a major tourist destination with a nearby international airport. The city is built on relatively flat land; the average elevation is 10 meters
(33 ft) above sea level. To the west of the city area is located the “La Giganta” Mountain Range, which extends along the center of the state of Baja California Sur, parallel to the gulf
coast.

Bahia Conception features several development opportunites. These include Santa Inés, Tiburón, Santispac and others. Mulege, on the bay itself, and nearby Loreto feature airports for ease of access.
